Molella
Biography
Maurizio Molella, born 6 November 1964 in Monza and based in Milan, is an Italian DJ and producer.
He began training at 14 and spent five years on a semi-professional mixing desk; he then hosted several local radio stations (Radio Country, Radio Nord, Milano 22, Superantenna, Retecittà). In 1986 he became a presenter on Radio Deejay where he launched his first Mega Mix on Sunday afternoons; his DJ career took off when he replaced Mario Fargetta at the New Feeling club and met immediate success.
He collaborated with Jovanotti, appearing on his first TV shows on Italia Uno and touring with him. At the same time he turned to production, working notably with Gala and the The Outhere Brothers on I Wanna Party, and he produced remixes for Vasco Rossi, JT Company, Aqua and Boy George.
As a solo artist his first single Revolution reached number one in Italy. He later released several eurodance tracks such as Changes and See The Difference (with the rapper from Antares). In 2001 he alternated his own singles Genik, Discotek People and Love Lasts Forever with remix work, notably on Ti Prendo E Ti Porto Via by Vasco Rossi, earning him an Italian Dance Award presented by Vasco Rossi.
Six years after his first album Originale Musicale Radicale he released his second record Les Jeux Sont Faits; the lead single Love Lasts Forever reached number one on the dance charts. The album also includes Whistle’s Party (with vocals by MC Nardo, also present on Discotek People), Farilalililla and Can U Feel, with distinctly European sounds.
In May 2002 the single TVAB was released and achieved similar success; in September the track Magia surprised by reusing the riff from Come Into My Life by Gala. These singles were released on the Liquid Sound label. In 2003 Molella returned with the single Baby!, a pop-electronic blend with 60s influences, after being named Dance producer 2002 at the FIMI awards.
