Biography

George Alan O’Dowd, born on 14 June 1961 in Eltham, Kent, England, is a singer, songwriter, producer and DJ. He is best known as the lead singer of the band Culture Beat and the project Jesus Loves You.

His career began with Culture Beat, formed with Mikey Craig, Jon Moss and Roy Hay. The group achieved worldwide success in the early 1980s with songs such as Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, Karma Chameleon and Time (Clock Of The Heart). Their sound blends Pop, new wave and soul. After the band split up, Boy George pursued a solo career with hits including Everything I Own and The Crying Game. He has also recorded under the aliases Jesus Loves You, Angela Dust, The Hand Of Jesus, The Real Feminem, George O'Dowd, The Nelly Terrorist, A Boy Called George and Rude George.

Alongside music, Boy George established himself as a DJ and hosted radio shows. He published two autobiographies and took part in musical theatre productions. His influence on pop culture and Dance music remains significant.
