Havana Brown
Biography
Havana Brown, born Angelique Meunier, is an Australian DJ and singer born on 14 February 1985 in Melbourne. Her stage name is inspired by a breed of cat.
Her musical career began with the band Fishbowl in London; the group split before releasing an album. She then turned to DJing, offering her services for free to club promoters, which led to regular residencies at London concerts and parties.
She gained prominence by taking part in the Circus Tour of Britney Spears and by opening concerts in Australia for artists such as Enrique Iglesias, The Pussycat Dolls, Lady Gaga, Chris Brown and Rihanna.
Signed to Universal Music Australia in early 2008, she was touted as the only female DJ signed to that major. She released a series of compilations titled ‘Crave’, mixing R&B and hip-hop.
Volume 2 reached the top 5 of the ARIA compilations chart, and the series sold over 50,000 copies in one year. Volume 4 debuted at number 2 on the ARIA compilations and urban music charts, bringing series sales to over 100,000 copies in just over a year. ‘Crave Vol. 5’ was released on 29 October 2010.
She was nominated for Best DJ at the Urban Music Awards in 2007 and won Best DJ in Pop Republic Magazine’s ‘It List’ the same year. She also hosts a weekly show on the Austereo radio network, mixing a set for the ‘Ad Free Fifty’ every Friday afternoon.
Her debut single, We Run The Night, released in 2011, reached number 5 on the ARIA Australian singles chart and earned her two ARIA Music Awards nominations: Breakthrough Artist Single and Highest Selling Single.
