DJ Lhasa

Biography

DJ Lhasa, whose real name is Maurizio Braccagni, is an Italian DJ and producer. He began mixing in 1987 and released his first records as early as 1989. His sets, heavily influenced by Northern European techno, would shape his artistic direction for years to come.

In 1993, under the alias Two Cowboys, he topped European sales charts with Everybody Gonfi Gon. The success established him as a leading DJ: he played in many clubs across Europe and produced remixes for various dance and pop artists such as Whigfield and JK & Berry.

In 2001, Maurizio B. produced Little Girl, a track that broke not only into Italian dance and sales charts, but also into international charts. The DJ Lhasa project officially began in June 2002.

His first single under that name was a cover of Belinda Carlisle’s hit Heaven Is a Place On Earth, which received a very strong response, especially in Asian markets. It was followed by Pinocchio, licensed throughout Europe.

DJ Lhasa truly broke through with Giulia, a remake of the original song by Gianni Togni. The single reached No. 1 in Italy, Spain, Canada, and Austria before a pan-European release. A major summer 2003 hit, it stayed in the Italian dance top 10 for five consecutive months.

The fourth single, Together Forever, is a new version of Rick Astley’s 1988 No. 1. In Italy, backed by strong radio support, it became one of the biggest dance hits of the winter, charting in the dance top 5 and the sales top 20. It also entered the top 10 in Austria.

On the back of these successes, DJ Lhasa was in high demand for live shows, particularly in Austria, Spain, Denmark, France, and Russia. He also produced numerous remixes, including Pretty Green Eyes, Feelin' Fine, and Better Than Life by Ultrabeat, as well as Lonely by Deep. Spirit.

The summer of 2004 was marked by the single No Controles, which became a hit across Europe. This momentum led him to prepare his first album. In early 2005 he released Mysterious Times, praised by international critics.

His debut album, Teknologia, followed, distributed in Italy, Russia, Japan, and Taiwan, then in the main European countries. Afterwards, the DJ Lhasa Dancefloor EP was released, incorporating an original sample from the 1990s hit Dance Your Ass Off by RTZ.
