Biography

Dan Mihai Bălan, known as Dan Balan, is a singer, songwriter, and producer born on 6 February 1979 in Chişinău, Moldova.

He rose to international prominence as a founding member and leader of the eurodance trio O-Zone. Formed in 1998 with Petru Jelihovschi and later joined by Arsenie Todiraş and Radu Sirbu, the group enjoyed major success across Europe. Their single Dragostea Din Tei, from the album *DiscO-Zone*, became a number-one hit in many European countries in 2003–2004, and another single from the same album, Despre Tine, achieved similar success. The trio split in January 2005 to pursue solo careers.

In 2006, Dan Balan introduced his alter ego “Crazy Loop” with the eurodance track Mm-ma-ma. He released an album under this pseudonym, *The Power of Shower*, in December 2007; it included the Romanian chart-topper Crazy Loop. In 2010, he returned to his main stage name to release the single Chica Bomb.

Throughout his career, Dan Balan has explored a range of styles, including pop, rock, and electronic music, releasing songs in Romanian, Russian, and English.
