O-Zone
Biography
O-Zone was a Moldovan pop group formed in 1998 by Dan Balan and Petru Jelihovschi. The group, which launched their career in Romania, consisted of Dan Balan, Radu Sârbu (alias RadU) and Arsenie Toderaş (alias Arsenium). Petru Jelihovschi left the group after their first album, “Dar, Unde Eşti …”, released in 1999.
O-Zone is best known for the single Dragostea Din Tei (2003), which reached number one in many countries in 2003-2004 and number three in the United Kingdom. The following single, Despre Tine, was also a major success across Europe. The group experienced a resurgence in popularity due to the viral phenomenon of the Numa Numa Dance, featuring Gary Brolsma mimicking and dancing to the song Dragostea Din Tei.
O-Zone disbanded in 2005, and each member pursued a solo career. They reunited for concerts in 2017 and 2019. In 2008, Dragostea Din Tei was sampled by Just Blaze and Canei Finch for T.I.’s single Live Your Life.
The group is associated with genres such as dance, pop, eurodance, and europop. O-Zone is also known under the aliases Fatal Error, Tragic Error, Patrick De Meyer, Dokter Luna, Roger Squire, and Dino Majore.
