Becky Hill
Biography
Becky Hill, born Rebecca Claire Hill on 14 February 1994, is an English singer and songwriter.
She became known to the public by participating in the first season of the BBC1 talent show The Voice UK; she auditioned with Ordinary People. Only coaches Jessie J and will.i.am turned and she chose Jessie J’s team, reaching the semi-final.
At 14 she began making music with a band called Shaking Trees, supported by BBC Introducing.
Shortly after the show her career in electronic music took off: she collaborated with producer Wilkinson on the track Afterglow, which she co-wrote and on which she performed the vocals; the single reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart and number 1 on the UK Dance Chart in October 2013.
She also worked with the group Rudimental, appearing on their track Powerless (released as a single in February 2014) and providing backing vocals on stage for them at festivals such as Glastonbury in 2013.
On 29 June 2014 she made history as the first The Voice UK contestant to reach number 1 on the UK Singles Chart with Gecko (Overdrive), a vocal collaboration with producers Oliver Heldens and Mnek.
Her success on the dance scene was confirmed at the Brit Awards: in 2022 she was nominated for British Song of the Year for Remember with David Guetta and won Best Dance Act, which she won again in 2023.
In April 2021 Becky Hill came out as queer on social media.
