Andreas Lundstedt

Biography

Andreas Lundstedt, full name Björn Helge Andreas Lundstedt, is a Swedish musician and performer born 20 May 1972 in Uppsala.

His passion for singing emerged early: at age five he took part in a children’s talent contest and finished second. At fifteen, he appeared regularly on television and on stage as a member of the group Stage Four, alongside future notable Swedish artists such as Peter Jöback, Lisa Nilsson and Lizette Pålsson.

He is best known as a founding member, in 1998, of the pop-disco group Alcazar, which achieved European success with the hit Crying at the Discoteque and released other successful singles, including This is The World We Live In in 2004. After a two-year hiatus, Alcazar reformed in 2007 with the lineup Tess Merkel, Lina Hedlund and Andreas Lundstedt.

Alongside the group, Andreas pursued a solo career: he released an album and four singles between 1996 and 1997, then in 2006 the single Lovegun/Nightfever, which included a cover of a Bee Gees hit. His most recent single is Move, slated for his next album.

He has also worked in musical theatre, appearing in Grease and Chicago. In autumn 2005 and spring 2006 he portrayed Tony Manero in the musical Saturday Night Fever in Stockholm, a performance praised by the press. He also works as a choreographer and created many choreographies for Alcazar.

Andreas Lundstedt is openly gay; he was in a relationship with former Alcazar member Magnus Carlsson. In December 2007 he confirmed that he is HIV-positive.
