Alexandra Stan
Biography
Alexandra Stan, born Alexandra Ioana Stan, is a Romanian singer and songwriter born on 10 June 1989 in Constanța.
Her career began in 2009 when music producers Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi heard her singing in a karaoke bar and offered her a contract with their management company Maan Studio. She released her first recording, Lollipop (Param Pam Pam), at the end of 2009.
Her next single, Mr. Saxobeat, written by the duo who discovered her, became a global hit in 2010, selling over one million copies in less than a year. It reached number one in nine countries and the top 10 in more than thirty countries, including New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Australia, while entering the top 30 in Canada and the United States.
Her debut album, Saxobeats, released in August 2011, reached the top 30 of the album charts in several European countries such as Germany, Austria and Finland. It produced the single Get Back (ASAP), which was successful in Romania, Finland and France.
She followed with the singles Lemonade – certified Gold in Italy -, Cliche (Hush Hush) and All My People, the latter reaching the top 20 in Japan.
The release of her second studio album, originally planned for summer 2013, was delayed after Alexandra Stan was assaulted by her former manager and partner Marcel Prodan. The album, titled Unlocked, was eventually released exclusively in Japan on 27 August 2014 by Victor Entertainment, reaching number 21 on the Japanese charts and number one on iTunes within hours. The singles Dance and Cherry Pop were successful there.
Unlocked was released worldwide on 24 November 2014 and in its international version includes the track Vanilla Chocolat featuring Connect-R.
Throughout her career, Alexandra Stan has been released on the labels Alexandra Stan Records, MediaPro Music, Ultra Records, Universal and Victor.
