A Friend in London

Biography

The band A Friend in London, sometimes referred to by the acronym AFIL, was formed in 2005 in Vostrup, Denmark.

The original lineup consisted of Tim Schou on lead vocals and guitar, Sebastian Vinther Olsen on guitar and backing vocals, Aske Damm Bramming on bass and backing vocals, and Esben Svane on drums and backing vocals. In April 2013, Aske Damm Bramming and Esben Svane left the band.

In 2008, the band won the European phase of the Bodog Million Dollar Battle of the Bands, qualifying for the final in the United States, but ultimately withdrew from the competition along with other finalists due to contractual issues.

The band represented Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf with the song New Tomorrow, after winning the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2011. They placed fifth out of 43 participants in the final.

The first studio album, titled *Unite*, was released in January 2013. It was preceded by the singles New Tomorrow, Calling a Friend, and Get Rich in Vegas. Upon the album’s release, the band also released the single Rest from the Streets featuring Carly Rae Jepsen.

In 2012, the band was the opening act for the joint European tour of New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys, the NKOTBSB Tour. This collaboration led to a new version of New Tomorrow featuring Howie D. of the Backstreet Boys. This version was included on the EP *A Friend in London 2012 EP*, released in June 2012, and later as a bonus track on the Deluxe version of the album *Unite*.

The band disbanded in January 2014.
