Biography
Carly Rae Jepsen, whose full name is Carly Rae Jepsen, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and musician born on November 21, 1985, in Mission, British Columbia.
Her music career began after studying musical theatre, when she finished third on the fifth season of Canadian Idol in 2007.
She launched her recording career in 2008 with the Canadian release of her debut studio album, Tug of War, which featured folk influences.
Her real international breakthrough came in 2011–2012 with the single Call Me Maybe, which became a global hit. It was the best-selling single of 2012, with 18 million copies sold, and reached number one in at least 19 countries.
With Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen became the first Canadian female artist to top the US Billboard Hot 100 since Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne in 2007.
The success earned her recording deals with School Boy Records and Interscope Records, as well as a contract with the label [l188011] of [a2924767].
Her second studio album, Kiss, was released later the same year.
Her third album, Emotion (2015), was influenced by 1980s music, dance-pop, and synth-pop.
She then released her fourth studio album, Dedicated, in 2019, followed by a companion compilation, Dedicated Side B, a year later.
Her sixth album, The Loneliest Time, came out in October 2022, and her seventh, The Loveliest Time, in July 2023; the latter consists of songs that were not selected for the previous album.
Alongside her music career, Carly Rae Jepsen made her Broadway debut in 2014, playing the title role in Cinderella for twelve weeks.
In 2016, she took part in the television special Grease: Live and provided voice work for the animated film Ballerina.
Over her career, she has won three Juno Awards, a Billboard Music Award, and an Allan Slaight Award, and has been nominated for Grammy Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, a Polaris Music Prize, and People’s Choice Awards.
