Biography

Sharam, born Sharam Tayebi (Persian: شهرام طیبی), is a house and techno DJ and producer, born on August 12, 1970 in Tehran, Iran. He emigrated to Washington, D.C. at age 14 and became a mainstay of the city’s underground dance music scene.

He is also the owner of the label Yoshitoshi Recordings and is based in Washington, D.C., USA. His career spans both solo work and his role as one half of the duo Deep Dish, alongside Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia.

As part of Deep Dish, he released two albums and produced or remixed a wide range of releases, including work connected to artists such as Janet Jackson and Stevie Nicks. The duo earned a Grammy nomination for their remix of Music and won the Grammy for “Best Remixed Recording” for their remix of Thank You. They also received two nominations tied to the album “George Is On,” including one for the single Say Hello, plus a nomination for a Flashdance remix by David Guetta.

As a solo artist, Sharam released two albums and six mix compilations, and he has produced or mixed work for other artists including Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Steve Aoki, and Shakira. He is associated with house tracks such as Party All the Time, The One (with Daniel Bedingfield), Don’t Say A Word (with Anousheh), She Came Along (with Kid Cudi), and My Way (featuring Honey Honey).

In 2009, he won BBC Radio 1’s “Essential Mix of the Year,” selected from 52 other mixes by his peers.
