Biography
Kaya Jones, born Chrystal Neria (also known as Crystal Nerhia), is a singer, dancer, model, and actress born on August 28, 1984 in Toronto. She holds dual Canadian and American citizenship. Her stage name incorporates “Jones” following a suggestion from Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones when she was signed as a punk rock artist, although no official tracks were released during that period.
She is best known for being a member of The Pussycat Dolls from 2003 to 2004. With the group, she recorded the tracks We Went as Far as We Felt Like Going and Sway on the PCD album, and appears in the latter’s music video. She participated with The Pussycat Dolls in events such as the MTV Asia Awards, MTV’s Rock the Vote, VH1’s Divas Live, and VH1’s Fashion Rocks.
Simultaneously and after leaving the group, she pursued a solo career. Her first single and video, Hollywood Doll, was released in July 2009. She also contributed two songs to the soundtrack of the film *American Pie Presents: Book of Love* the same year. Her first solo album, also titled *Hollywood Doll*, was announced for release in 2010.
Her career is marked by numerous collaborations. As early as 1999, she was signed by R. Kelly through a development deal. She then worked with artists such as Britney Spears, Mick Jagger (singing backing vocals on *Old Habits Die Hard* which also featured Katy Perry), D12 and Eminem (appearing in the *How Come* video). She also collaborated with the electro duo Dada Life. In 2008, she sang on two tracks from the album *Shock Treatment* by rapper MBA Shakoor. In 2010, she lent her voice to the song Take It Off for the album *Registrated 2* by Belgian musician Regi, in the electronic genre.
Outside of music, Kaya Jones has modeled for campaigns by brands such as Merlin Castell, Mis Cositas, YMI Jeans, Rock & Republic, and Redken. She also launched her own brand Hollywood Doll, offering a line of clothing, candy, and beauty products for young girls.
