Biography
Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is an American rapper, songwriter and producer born October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
His professional career began in 1992 as a member of the group Soul Intent alongside Proof; that year he and his group founded the label Mashin’ Duck Records. He later joined the hip-hop collective D12 and formed the duo Bad Meets Evil with Royce da 5'9".
After his debut album *Infinite* (1996) and the EP *Slim Shady EP* (1997), he signed with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment and reached mainstream success in 1999 with *The Slim Shady LP*; his following albums *The Marshall Mathers LP* (2000) and *The Eminem Show* (2002) were worldwide successes.
He also co-founded the label Shady Records, which helped launch the careers of artists such as D12, 50 Cent and Obie Trice.
Eminem starred in the film *8 Mile* (2002); the song Lose Yourself from the soundtrack won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
He is considered one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
