Ma. Bra.
Biography
Ma. Bra. is the stage name of Italian DJ and producer Maurizio Braccagni, born in Milan on 26 November 1968. He has also used the alias DJ Lhasa, as well as the shortened form Ma.Bra.
He began working as a disc jockey in 1987 and released his first production in 1989. For nearly four years, his nightclub sets focused on techno, especially from Northern Europe, an influence that strongly shaped his artistic direction.
He officially started his career as a producer in 1992, releasing the EPs “Groovy As A Beat” and “Yeah!” under his real name. In 1993, still as Maurizio Braccagni, he released “XTC Vol 1”, “XTC Vol 2”, “M.B. Side E.P.” and “The Hammer E.P.”, made in collaboration with Fabio Locati and Leroy.
In 1993, under the pseudonym Two Cowboys, he entered European sales charts with Everybody Gonfi Gon.
In 1997 he adopted the name Brabra and focused on progressive trance, launching R.A.I.L. with Walk For Me and Ekophase with Open Up Your Mind.
From 2000 onward he produced italodance while bringing in ethnic inspirations: Sonic Tribe with Progressive Indian (inspired by Indian sounds), Teknoetnik with Im Nin' Alù (inspired by Hebrew chants), and Pandy J with Bagpiper (inspired by Celtic music).
In 2001 he created the project Lilù and released Little Girl, which was remixed by Eiffel 65 and found success on the Italian dance scene and elsewhere in Europe. The same year he formed Labelle with Morris Capaldi (author of the group M.A.D.R.A.S.) and released the singles Ping Pong, Plastic Dog and Looking In Your Eyes.
In 2002 he launched the DJ Lhasa project, initially making dance covers of older songs, including “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” by Belinda Carlisle and “Giulia” by Gianni Togni. The latter led to a collaboration with Gabry Ponte, for whom he made a remix.
In 2006, under the Ma.Bra. name, he founded the label MABRA Records and released new songs including The Riddle, Original Sin and Everybody, as well as Cursed Destiny, followed by Action.
In 2007 he released Al ritmo and Friends, along with a remix by Iklip, “Turning for you”. That same year, via Real Eagle Records, he worked on Dj play this song in collaboration with Bassrockerz and Marc Korn. In autumn he issued a first Ma.Bra. EP featuring Friends, Al ritmo, Tekno and “We want to rock”, and in December released “Ma.Bra. Ep vol.2” with Where we are, Happy style, The riddle and Action.
In 2008 he continued with “La musica del futuro”, Calabria and “Pullover” on “Ma.Bra. Ep vol. 3”, followed by “Ma.Bra. Ep vol. 4” including a remix of “Whenever wherever” and One love, Sad emotion and Dr. Frankenstein. In October, another EP followed with “I wanna know”, “Una nuova energia”, “I won’t forget you” and “Call on me”.
