Eiffel 65

Eiffel 65

Biography

Eiffel 65 is an Italian eurodance group formed in Turin by producers and composers Jeffrey Jey (also the vocalist), Maurizio Lobina and Gabry Ponte.

The name came from a random word generator that produced “Eiffel”; the “65” was added by mistake from a phone number scribbled on a demo.

Their biggest worldwide hit is their first single Blue (Da Ba Dee), from the 1999 album “Europop”, which reached number one in the UK and Australia and number four in the United States. It was followed by Move Your Body, which peaked at number three in the UK.

Their second album, “Contact!”, was released in 2001 and had moderate success in Europe. The self-titled third album, released in 2003, featured mainly Italian lyrics; a special double-disc edition released a few months later included the English versions and some remixes.

In 2005, Gabry Ponte left the group to focus on his solo career. In 2006, Jeffrey Jey and Maurizio Lobina left the Bliss Corporation label and formed Bloom 06, with whom they released two albums, two EPs and several singles.

In June 2010 the CEO of Bliss Corporation announced the return of the original lineup; Jeffrey Jey, Maurizio Lobina and Gabry Ponte then worked on a new studio album. However, in 2016 Gabry Ponte announced he was no longer collaborating with the group.
