Richard Durand
Biography
Richard Durand, born Leenderd T. Richard van Schooneveld, is a DJ and trance producer from Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Named by Tiësto in DJ Magazine as his ‘Tip For The Top in 2007’, he quickly confirmed that potential with a series of acclaimed productions and remixes.
His style blends trance, techno and electro into a dynamic, punchy mix.
He first made his mark as a solo producer with tech-trance tracks like Make Me Scream and Slipping Away on the Terminal 4 label.
His profile rose sharply thanks to official remixes of Tiësto singles — Lethal Industry, Flight 643, Break My Fall — and reworks of tracks such as Smack My Bitch Up and Chasing Cars, which became festival favorites.
He received regular support from top DJs like Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Judge Jules and Eddie Halliwell.
In 2008 he added his touch to major tracks like Toca's Miracle and In And Out Of Love; that year his solo production Weep, featuring singer Skin (Skunk Anansie) and released on Perfecto, became a summer anthem.
His DJ schedule grew exponentially: headlining Sensation, Trance Energy and Planet Love, a summer residency at Judgement Sundays in Ibiza, and appearances at clubs such as Godskitchen and Gatecrasher.
Known for his technique — often using four CD players and effects units — his sets take listeners through cutting-edge tracks and technical mixes, earning him worldwide popularity.
He joined the small circle of DJs who have produced an ‘Essential Mix’ for BBC Radio 1 and co-hosted shows with Judge Jules on the same station.
In 2009 he delivered another notable remix of Madagascar and released his first artist album, Always The Sun, on Magik Muzik; that year he entered DJ Magazine’s Top 100 at number 49.
