2 Brothers on the 4th Floor

Biography

2 Brothers on the 4th Floor is a Dutch group formed in 1990 by brothers Martin Boer and Bobby Boer. That same year, their career took off with the international success of the single Can't Help Myself. In their early live performances they were joined by rapper Da Smooth Baron MC and singers Peggy “The Duchess” and Gale Robinson.

After a split, the project was relaunched in 1993 with a new live line-up featuring rapper D-Rock (René Philips) and singer Des'ray (Desirée Manders). Their single Never Alone reached number one on the charts and was certified gold.

In 1994, Dreams (Will Come Alive) became a national and international hit, also reaching the top 30 of Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart in the United States. The follow-up single, Let Me Be Free, stayed in the Dutch top 10.

Between 1995 and 1996, the group continued its run of success with Fly (Through the Starry Night), Come Take My Hand and Fairytales, moving into a happy hardcore style.

Their second album, 2, was released in late 1996, followed by the single There's a Key. They then explored an R&B sound with One Day before returning to eurodance with I'm Thinkin' of U.

From 1998 to 2001, they released several singles, including Do U Know, The Sun Will Be Shining (which came with a video CD-ROM), Heaven Is Here, Living In Cyberspace, Wonderful Feeling and Stand Up And Live. A third album never materialized due to issues with record labels.

They continued performing at 1990s revival concerts and festivals and released the compilation “The Very Best of” in April 2016. Alongside the group, Des'ray pursued a solo career, and D-Rock collaborated with rapper E-Life.

In November 2025 it was announced that D-Rock would retire from the stage due to his battle with Parkinson’s disease; in solidarity, Des'ray also left the group’s line-up. Their final concert together is scheduled for 4 April 2026.

After their departure, the live act is fronted by rapper Masta Ez (already part of the line-up) and singer Li-Ann, the former wife of Stay-C and a former singer of Twenty 4 Seven.
