Yomanda

Biography

Yomanda is an alias used by Northern Irish DJ and producer Paul Masterson, whose full name is Paul Kevin Masterson.

Originally from Belfast and based in London, he achieved significant success in the electronic scene, with no less than 18 tracks charting in the UK Top 30.

His high-quality work as a remixer and producer led him to collaborate with major artists like Kylie Minogue, Armand Van Helden, or the label Hed Kandi, as well as with the groups Amen UK and Candy Girls, earning him a series of international hits.

He also collaborated with Boy George and singer Jeanie Tracy, resulting in tracks like ‘We Need Love’, ‘Grateful’, ‘Out of Fashion’, and ‘Poverty’.

His main production project is the duo Hi-Gate, formed with DJ Judge Jules, which released the album ‘Split Personality’ in 2003. Most of his solo work is done under the pseudonym Yomanda.

Paul Masterson also works under other aliases, including Paul Masterson, Wand (sometimes in collaboration with Storm HQ), Sushi, Dorothy, Subway, and Hasha. The Subway project is linked to the Southern Fried Records label, and the single ‘Pullin for Two’ was co-written with Fatboy Slim.

Another project, named ‘Yomtrax’, is a collaboration with Frank Trax from Barcelona. The track ‘Party Jumpin”, featuring Jeanie Tracy on vocals, was released by QUAKE Records in Japan, a country where Yomanda had already found success through collaborations with DJ UTO.

New collaborations were planned for 2006, including with Jeanie Tracy and the PM Project alongside Sharon Woolf. It was also reported that Paul Masterson was working on new tracks with Pete Burns, the singer of Dead Or Alive.

Variations of the name Yomanda include Jomanda, YMDA, Yamanda, Yomanada, and Yomando. His musical style is associated with trance, electronic music, techno, and more specifically uplifting trance.
