Tove Lo
Biography
Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson, professionally known as Tove Lo, is a Swedish singer and songwriter from Stockholm, raised specifically in the Djursholm area of Danderyd.
She attended the Rytmus Musikergymnasiet music school. Her music career began in 2006 with the formation of the rock band Tremblebee. After the group split, she shifted to songwriting and secured a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music in 2011.
Working with producers such as Alexander Kronlund, Max Martin, and Xenomania, she found success as a songwriter for other artists while recording her own material. Notable co-writes for other pop figures include Love Me Like You Do and Homemade Dynamite.
Signed to Universal Music, Island, and Polydor in 2013, she gained international recognition the following year with her debut album *Queen of the Clouds*. It produced the hit Habits (Stay High), which reached number three on the US Billboard Hot 100, as well as the single Talking Body.
Her second album, *Lady Wood*, released in October 2016, peaked at number eleven on the Billboard 200, and its lead single, Cool Girl, became an international hit. She later released *Blue Lips* (2017) and *Sunshine Kitty* (2019), the latter spawning the Grammy-nominated track Glad He's Gone.
Tove Lo is known for a raw, grunge-influenced pop approach and for honest, complex, autobiographical lyrics—earning her the nickname “Sweden’s saddest girl.” She has collaborated with many artists across pop and electronic music, including Charli XCX, Flume, SG Lewis, Dua Lipa, Kylie Minogue, and Coldplay.
