Biography
Tia Ray, born 袁娟 and known in Chinese as 袁娅维 (Yuán Yàwéi), is a Chinese singer-songwriter born on December 12, 1984 in Huaihua, Hunan province.
Her music career began in 2004 as a backing vocalist for artists such as Jane Zhang and Ma Tianyu. She rose to prominence in 2013 through her participation in the show The Voice of China, which launched her career as a solo artist.
She released her self-titled debut studio album in 2014 and later strengthened her presence in the industry by competing on the music show Singer in 2017 and 2020.
Often nicknamed the ‘Queen of Urban Soul’, Tia Ray is known for her deep, resonant voice and her ability to navigate multiple genres. Her repertoire includes soul, R&B, pop, ballads and EDM, and she sings in both Chinese and English.
