Taylor Swift
Biography
Taylor Alison Swift, born December 13, 1989 in Reading, Pennsylvania, is an American singer-songwriter.
She signed her first recording contract at age 15 and released her self-titled album in October 2006; Swift wrote or co-wrote all the songs on her albums.
Her career took off with her second studio album, Fearless (2008), a country-pop record with crossover hits like Love Story and You Belong with Me. She then explored rock sounds on Speak Now (2010) before broadening her palette with Red (2012), drawing on pop, rock and electronic influences.
Swift completed a full transition to pop with 1989 (2014), a synth-pop album, and developed an electropop sound on reputation (2017) and Lover (2019), incorporating urban and retro styles respectively.
These albums produced international singles such as Shake It Off, Blank Space, Look What You Made Me Do and ME! featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco.
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she experimented with folk and alternative rock on the albums folklore and evermore; the lead singles cardigan and willow reached the top of global charts.
Her tenth studio album, Midnights (2022), marked a return to pop, set records on Spotify and yielded the hits Anti-Hero and Lavender Haze; Swift became the first artist ever to occupy the entire top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 with tracks from a single album.
Following a public dispute over the acquisition of the masters of her earlier catalogue, she began re-recording her first six albums in November 2020; these new versions, labeled (Taylor’s Version) to indicate she owns the masters, include Fearless (Taylor’s Version) (2021), Red (Taylor’s Version) (2021), as well as Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version).
Throughout her career she has collaborated with artists such as Ed Sheeran, The National, Bon Iver, HAIM and Phoebe Bridgers.
