Sin with Sebastian

Biography

Sin with Sebastian is the musical project of artist Sebastian Roth, also known under the aliases Sebastian Roth, Zeb (22) and Stefan Roth (8). After experiences in the duos “Two And A Dog” and “Just Married”, he began a solo career. Having completed his design studies, he moved to London where he worked in a small West End theater and composed in his free time. Influenced by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe of the band Pet Shop Boys, he decided to fully commit to music.

Signed by the label Sing Sing in 1994, he achieved international success the following year with the single Shut Up (And Sleep with Me), which reached number one on the charts in several European countries and charted on the American Billboard Dance chart. The song, influenced by artists such as Boy George, Jimmy Somerville and the Pet Shop Boys, became an anthem on the gay club scene. The album Golden Boy followed in 1995, recorded at Boogie Park Studios in Germany. However, the eponymous single extracted from it did not replicate the same success, often relegating the project to one-hit wonder status in the public mind.

In 1996, the project was nominated for the Echo Award as best dance act. A collaboration with Marianne Rosenberg on the track He belongs to me was released in 1997 and achieved success in Mexico. After an artistic break starting in 1998, Sebastian Roth revived the project in 2005 by partnering with a guitarist named Tom, with the ambition of renewing his approach to writing and sound.

He then founded his independent label, Lipstick Confusion Records, in 2006. After a decade of silence, new singles like Fuck You (i am in Love) in 2007 and EPs such as PUNK POP! were released. The artist moved to Berlin in 2010 and continued his releases, such as the EP Punk POP! 2 and the single That´s all? (i´m not satisfied). He also collaborated with former porn star Dolly Buster on tracks like Wake up (be good to me) in 2011.

The musical universe of Sin with Sebastian, nurtured by artists such as Yanou, Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, Soft Cell or Human League, thus evolves over the years while remaining rooted in electronic and dance pop.
