Robin Thicke
Biography
Robin Thicke, born Robert Charles Thicke, is an American singer, songwriter, producer, and actor, born on March 10, 1977, in Los Angeles, California.
He is the son of actor-singers Alan Thicke and Gloria Loring. Growing up in a musical environment, he taught himself piano at age twelve and, by fourteen, could play by ear what he heard on the radio. By sixteen, with no formal training, he began writing and producing professionally for other artists.
Prior to his own performing career, he wrote songs for acts like 3T, Brownstone, and Color Me Badd, and collaborated with the production duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on Jordan Knight’s 1999 eponymous album.
His debut album, ‘A Beautiful World’, was released in 2003. The single When I Get You Alone, which samples A Fifth of Beethoven, achieved international success but more moderate traction in the United States.
His career took a turn after signing to Pharrell Williams‘ Star Trak label. The 2005 single Wanna Love You Girl, recorded with Pharrell, garnered attention. His second album, ‘The Evolution of Robin Thicke’ (2006), reached number one on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and was certified platinum. Tracks like Lost Without U and Got 2 Be Down (featuring Faith Evans) became major hits.
The album included collaborations with Lil Wayne and Pharrell Williams. Thicke stated his desire for this album was to write completely honest songs and sing them with the emotion he felt when creating them.
He is best known for the pop smash Blurred Lines (2013), featuring T.I. and Pharrell Williams. Throughout his career, he has also written and produced for numerous other artists, accumulating gold and platinum records with names like Usher, Mary J. Blige, Michael Jackson, and Christina Aguilera.
His aliases and name variations include Pro J, R. Thicke, Rob Thicke, Robin Alan Thicke, or simply Thicke.
