Petra Marklund

Biography

Petra Linnea Paula Marklund, born on 12 September 1984 in Stockholm, is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She made her debut in 2000 under her real name with the album Teen Queen.

She is internationally known under the stage name September, a project mainly produced by Jonas von der Burg. Under this alias, she scored a run of dance-pop hits from 2003 onwards, starting with La La La (Never Give It Up). Her songs Satellites and Cry For You reached No. 8 and No. 1 respectively on the US Billboard chart. Having sold more than one million copies worldwide, Cry For You was nominated in 2008 for the Swedish government’s Music Export Prize.

In Sweden, her biggest success came in 2010 with a cover of Mikrofonkåt, originally a track by Petter. The song entered the Swedish charts straight at No. 1, stayed there for 11 consecutive weeks, and was certified 8x Platinum.

In 2012, to distinguish herself from her September project, she released her first Swedish-language album under the name Petra Marklund. This more personal material, less explicitly aimed at a dance audience, included the lead single Händerna mot himlen, written by Joakim Berg from the Swedish band Kent.
