Biography

Melanie C, born Melanie Jayne Chisholm, is an English singer, songwriter and actress, born on 12 January 1974 in Whiston, Merseyside.

She is best known as a member of the famous girl group Spice Girls, where she was nicknamed Sporty Spice. Her music career began in 1996 with this quintet, for which she co-wrote eleven UK number-one singles and achieved global success.

Alongside the band and after its split, she launched a successful solo career. Her debut album, *Northern Star* (1999), reached number 4 in the UK and was certified triple platinum. It included tracks such as the duet with Bryan Adams, When You're Gone. In 2004, she founded her own independent label, Red Girl Records.

Her solo repertoire, spanning several albums, navigates between pop and dance. The single First Day Of My Life, from the soundtrack of a German soap opera, became a huge hit across Europe in 2005, reaching number one in Germany, Spain, Portugal and Austria.

A versatile artist, Melanie C has also pursued a career in musical theatre, winning awards for her roles in *Blood Brothers* and *Jesus Christ Superstar*. She performed regularly on stage, as documented by her *Live Hits* DVD recorded in London in 2006.

She continued her solo journey with albums like *The Sea* (2011) and *Version of Me* (2016), while participating in Spice Girls reunion tours and compilations.
