Biography
Margaret, also known as Gaja Hornby and Maggie, was born as Małgorzata Jamroży on 30 June 1991 in Stargard Szczeciński. She is a Polish singer, composer and songwriter, and also a fashion designer. Since 2020, she has been the owner of the Gaja Hornby Records label.
She made her recording-market debut in 2013 with the EP “All I Need”, promoted by the single Thank You Very Much. The song charted in Austria, Germany and Italy. In Poland, it was the third best-selling single of 2013 and earned her ZPAV’s “Digital Song of the Year” award.
In July 2013, representing Poland, she took second place at the Baltic Song Festival in Karlshamn. In 2014 she released her debut studio album “Add the Blonde”, which reached number 8 on Poland’s OLiS sales chart and was certified platinum. The standard edition was promoted with Wasted, Start a Fire (the official anthem of the 2014 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship) and Heartbeat. The reissue was supported by Cool Me Down and Elephant; Cool Me Down was certified double platinum in Poland and also charted in Sweden, where it was certified gold.
In late 2015 she released her second studio album, “Just the Two of Us”, recorded with Matt Dusek; it reached number 28 on OLiS and was certified platinum. In 2017 she issued “Monkey Business”, which reached number 8 on OLiS. In 2018, with In My Cabana, she placed seventh in the final of Melodifestivalen 2018. In 2019 she released her third album, “Gaja Hornby”.
Throughout her career she has won multiple music awards, including MTV Europe Music Awards, Kids’ Choice Awards, Eska Music Awards and SuperJedynka. She has also received several nominations, including for the Fryderyk, Wiktor and Telekamery Awards.
