Joy Salinas

Biography

Joy Salinas is a singer born in the Philippines and based in Italy since the late 1980s. She is signed to the One Thousand Records label.

After Paris Nights, her first major hit was Rockin Romance (1991), released in France on Happy Music with remixes by Black Box and DJ Herbie. The same year saw the release of The Mystery of Love, remixed by Joey Negro. She issued her debut album, Joy Salinas, in the then-popular italo house/garage style; one of its songs served as the theme for the Italian film Vacanze di Natale ’91.

In April 1992 she released the single Party Time and in August took part in the eponymous single by DJ Herbie. She appeared regularly on music TV shows such as Superclassifica Show, Festivalbar and Mio Capitano. For subsequent singles she adopted a eurodance style and achieved considerable success in Europe, particularly in France.

Bip Bip was released in May 1993 in Italy and in October in France on Airplay Records, reaching the top 10 of club charts and CD-maxi sales in France. The producers behind it were Max and Frank Minoia as well as Silvia Bideri and Claudio Donato. The following single, Hands Off, featured backing vocals by Karen Jones (singer of Bitmachine), Laura Mancini (who also sang on People Talk) and rapper Melvin Hudson.

People Talk, released in January 1994 with the same team (Karen Jones on backing vocals and Melvin Hudson on rap), appeared on many compilations but did not achieve the expected success. The maxi CD included a Road Radio mix, a Road Club mix, the album version and, as a bonus, a remix of Hands Off.

The single Gotta Be Good, produced by Fargetta, was released in June in Italy and in July in France; an excellent eurodance production that nonetheless failed to match the popularity of her previous releases. A month later remixes of Rockin Romance by Cappella were published.

With Calling You Love, released in January 1995 and featuring raps by Kevin Orlando Ettienne, she returned to ragga influences. It was her last single distributed in France; subsequent releases were national only.

In 1995 Joy undertook a highly successful tour in Brazil. Her next single, Deputy Of Love, was released. Give Me A Break appears on the soundtrack of the film Panarea; written by Nexel, Barkyus and Joy Salinas, it was arranged and performed by Nexel and Barkyus, with Claudio Donato as executive producer for the Antibemusic label.

In 1996 Dream In Paradise was released, written by Nexel, Barkyus and Joy Salinas, arranged and remixed by Alex Neri and Marco Baroni, and recorded at Bass Recording Studio.

In February 2008 Joy collaborated with DJ Groovy on the track Desafinado.
