Jay Sean, born Kamaljit Singh Jhooti, is a British singer-songwriter born on 26 March 1981 in Southall, London.

He emerged from the Anglo-Indian underground scene as a member of the Rishi Rich Project on the single [song]Dance With You[/song] in 2003, which reached No. 12 on the UK charts and led to a deal with Virgin Records.

His debut album, ‘Me Against Myself’, was released in November 2004; blending traditional Indian pop influences like bhangra with personal and political themes, it was critically acclaimed and certified gold in the UK and multi-platinum in India. The singles [song]Dance With You[/song], [song]Eyes On You[/song] (peaked at No. 6) and [song]Stolen[/song] (No. 4) found success in clubs and on the charts.

In 2006 he left Virgin to found his own independent label, Jayded Records. His second album, ‘My Own Way’, was released in May 2008 on that label; despite mixed reviews it reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 1 on the R&B chart, eventually being certified platinum. The lead single [song]Ride It[/song] received wide radio play across Europe.

His third studio album, ‘All or Nothing’, released in November 2009, marked his international breakthrough with the tracks [song]Down[/song] (featuring Lil’ Wayne) and [song]Do You Remember[/song]; the single [song]Down[/song] reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, consolidating his status as a global superstar.
