Biography

Gina G, born Gina Mary Gardiner, is an Australian singer born on 3 August 1970 in Brisbane, based in the United Kingdom. She started her career as a DJ before becoming a pop star, gaining international recognition after representing the United Kingdom at the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest with Ooh Aah… Just a Little Bit. Although the song failed to impress the Eurovision juries, it became a huge commercial success in the UK, reaching number one, and also found success across Europe and in the United States.

More hits followed, including I Belong To You, Ti Amo, Fresh and Gimme Some Love, all taken from the album Fresh. Closely linked to the club scene, she quickly became a gay icon, drawing large crowds at London clubs such as the G.A.Y., where her name was chanted by thousands before her performances. Her musical world spans Dance, Pop and Eurodance, driven by electronic sounds. She is also known by the alias Gina Gardiner in certain contexts.

Her career was affected by a contractual dispute with Motiv 8 (Steve Rodway), which temporarily halted her recording work. She later made several comeback attempts, notably by appearing on the TV show “Reborn in the USA” and entering the UK selections for Eurovision 2005, without much success. In 2006, she made a more notable return with the single Tonight's The Night and the album Get Up & Dance, released via her own label Stuntgirl, demonstrating that an artist could reach a niche audience without major-label backing or radio airplay. After a break devoted to motherhood, she returned in 2011 with Next 2 You, a collaboration with Vigilante, released by Discipline Music. Over the course of her career, she also provided vocals for tracks by Soda Club.
