Farruko

Biography

Farruko, born Carlos Efren Reyes, is a reggaeton and Latin pop singer from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, born in 1991.

He began at 16 by posting his tracks on MySpace; his first single, Sexo Fuera del Planeta, gained him thousands of followers and led him to explore other social networks. This online success caught the attention of radio stations and industry professionals in Puerto Rico, who called on his voice for collaborations with other artists.

At 18 he released his debut album, El Talento del Bloque, on the Siente Music label and distributed by Universal. Composed of 13 tracks mostly written by him, the album was an immediate success and features collaborations such as Su Hija Me Gusta with José Feliciano, Ella No Es Facil with Cosculluela, and Traime a Tu Amiga with Arcangel and Julio Voltio. He also released the non-album hit Pa Romper la Discoteca with Daddy Yankee and Yomo.

In 2012 he released his second album, TMPR: The Most Powerful Rookie, whose lead successful single was Feel the Rhythm (Siente el Ritmo). The record showed his ease in electro and pop as well as reggaeton and earned him a Latin Grammy Awards nomination.

After touring Latin America and the United States, he released Farruko Presenta los Menores at the end of October 2014, which quickly reached number one on the Latin Albums charts. The album includes notable collaborations such as Salgo with Arcangel, Ñengo Flow, D. Ozi, Genio and Kelmitt, Bebe Conmigo with J. Balvin, and Interesada with Luigi 21+.

2015 brought several accolades, including Premios Juventud for 6 AM with J. Balvin, and Latin Grammy Awards for Best Urban Performance and Best Urban Song. He also featured on the remix of Lejos de Aquí with Yandel, and was the surprise partner of Alejandra Guzman on her first urban single, Adios. In July, the pre-album track Sunset with Shaggy and Nicky Jam reached the top of many Latin charts.

In August 2015 he compiled his singles and collaborations on the album The Ones, then released his studio album Visionary at the end of October; preorders allowed Visionary to debut at number one on several Latin album charts, a position it held for weeks.

He returned in 2017 with his sixth studio album, Trapficante, blending reggaeton, urban pop and the second generation of Latin trap, a genre he then considered still in its early stages.
