DJs from Mars
Biography
DJs from Mars is an Italian DJ and producer duo based in Turin, formed by Luca Ventafridda (Ventafunk) and Massimiliano Garino (Aqualuce). Their debut single, Non dormo più (Movimental, 2004), was well received, charted highly and appeared on five compilations.
In 2005 they released Open Sesame and Kipo Mambo (Movimental), which earned them playlists outside Italy. After a break, their 2007 return with The Motherfucker (Green Park) marked the digital era by placing the track in the charts of several online stores.
2008 was prolific: the single Who gives a fuck about deejays (The Dominion) attracted the attention of leading European house DJs and generated many remix requests. They reworked tracks for the French artist Armand de France (I Say Ride on) and the German Alex Megane (Hurricane 2008), and their remake of Dirty Mary was widely played on major dance radio stations in Italy and across Europe.
Their collaborations that year include a remix with Brazilian DJ and label owner Diovanni on Don't stop the music, and remixes for label mates Freakadelika (I don't like it) and dB Pure (All night long, Falling Down), which were praised by major DJs around the Mediterranean.
The single Saturday night on the moon (The Dominion, 2008) was included on compilations in Germany and Italy and was heavily played in clubs and on radio stations in Eastern Europe. They also launched the side project Sashimi Planet, showcasing their melodic pop side, with the single lonely Satellite.
Early 2009, Suono e Immagine (The Dominion) marked a shift toward more progressive sounds; they then collaborated with dB Pure on Revolution Radio, which was quickly licensed for a major German compilation.
The same year they produced the main mix of Diventa come un fiore by Italian band Dari. Absolutely Records (the label of Phunk Investigation) commissioned them a remix of Show me the way featuring vocals by Sharon May Linn; Canadian label Peak Hour Music asked them to rework breathe, and they produced a notable remix of the club anthem Blue (Da Ba Dee) for BlissCorporation.
