DJ Encore
Biography
DJ Encore, whose real name is Andreas Bang Hemmeth, was born in 1979 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
He achieved his first major success in 2001 after signing with Sony ATV Music Publishing: one of his compositions was chosen as the official theme for the first edition of Big Brother Denmark. The song, which became an instant mega-hit, is I See Right Through To You, performed by Danish vocalist Engelina, with whom he formed the project DJ Encore (feat.) Engelina.
Their debut single became one of Denmark’s best-selling singles, reaching double platinum in just over three weeks and debuting at number one on the charts, where it stayed for six weeks. This success led to the release of the album Intuition in October 2001.
DJ Encore’s sound—a mix of pop with trance elements and catchy melodies—resonated particularly in the United States: an album sold over 125,000 copies and a 28-city promotional tour was organized, increasing demand for his DJ performances.
The success earned him several nominations (Danish Music Awards, Winter Music Conference Awards). He also moved into remixing: his first two US remixes for Frou Frou and RES both reached number one on the Billboard Hot Club Play. He later remixed tracks for Lee Ann Rimes, Amber, Berlin, and Limp Bizkit.
He produced his own mixed compilation for Ultra Records, which sold over 125,000 units, becoming one of the label’s most successful compilations.
In 2002 Andreas Hemmeth and Engelina ended their collaboration. In 2003, under the pseudonym Saphire, he released a Big Brother track, There's Someone Watching, with vocalist Linnéa Handberg. In 2005 he released the single You Can Walk On Water with new Swedish vocalist Johanna Stedt, a cover of the hit by Danish group Catch.
Alongside his work as an artist, remixer and DJ, Andreas Hemmeth is a producer and songwriter for numerous projects, collaborating with a range of artists, including the Princess of Denmark and the winner of Belgian Idol; his achievements include 11 platinum records and 3 gold records worldwide.
His next album, Unique, was co-written with various songwriters worldwide, but all production, recording and mixing took place in his own studio in Copenhagen. The album features the new Swedish vocalist Johanna.
