Dario G
Biography
Dario G was a British dance music group from Crewe in Cheshire. It was formed by DJs and producers Scott Rosser, Paul Spencer and Stephen Spencer (the latter not related to Paul). Their debut single, Sunchyme, brought rapid success in the late 1990s: it reached number two in the United Kingdom, Scotland, Denmark and Switzerland, and number one on the US Dance Club Songs chart.
Their 1998 album Sunmachine produced other hits such as Carnaval de Paris — later reused for the FIFA World Cup 2002 as ‘Carnival 2002’ — and the title track Sunmachine. After that album, Scott Rosser and Stephen Spencer left the project, leaving Paul Spencer to continue solo under the name Dario G.
Norwegian singer Ingfrid Straumstøyl later joined and made her vocal debut on the single Dream to Me, from the second album In Full Colour (2001). The group also contributed to the soundtrack of the film The Beach with the track Voices in 2000.
Over the years Dario G remained associated with FIFA, collaborating notably with American rapper Pitbull on ‘Game On’ for the 2010 World Cup. The project also worked with artists such as Shirley Bassey, Clean Bandit, Danny Dearden and Sonique. Paul Spencer continued to perform and record as Dario G until his death in June 2024 from colorectal cancer.
