Cookin’ on 3 Burners

Biography

Cookin’ on 3 Burners is an Australian trio formed in Melbourne in 2000, blending Funk, Soul, Boogaloo and Jazz. The lineup includes Lance Ferguson (guitar), Dan West (guitar), Jake Mason (Hammond organ), Ivan Khatchoyan (drums) and Matt Kirsch. Their sound is driven by a wailing Hammond organ, setting them apart in the funk landscape.

After several residencies in Melbourne and a self-produced 7″, they gained attention with the 12″ “Cressy St Breakdown” on Knowfoowl, distributed by Groove Distribution. This was followed by the reissue of “Gravel Rash” via the Freestyle label, then the 7″ “Keb’s Bucket”. They supported Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings in Sydney in 2006 and Breakestra in Melbourne. Their track This Girl (2016) became a major hit. They have also collaborated with Kylie Auldist.
