Charlotte Church
Biography
Charlotte Church (born Charlotte Maria Reed) is a Welsh vocalist, songwriter, actress and television personality.
At age 11 she performed by telephone Pie Jesu on This Morning; that spot and an appearance on ITV’s Big, Big Talent Show led to concert dates, a voice scholarship to Howell’s School Llandaff in Cardiff and a recording contract with Sony Music.
In 1998 her debut album Voice of an Angel was released, making her a classical crossover phenomenon and the youngest artist to reach No. 1 on the classical charts.
1999’s Charlotte Church collected sacred pieces, arias and folk songs; 2000 brought the pop-influenced Christmas album Dream a Dream and 2001’s Enchantment mixed pop, swing and Broadway tracks.
She sang All Love Can Be for Ron Howard’s A Beautiful Mind and contributed other vocal parts to music by James Horner.
Prelude, a compilation from her first four albums, appeared in 2002; the British release of Tissues and Issues in 2005 marked a major shift toward pop with largely original material.
Church and Sony ended their contract in 2006 and she focused on raising her children. Between 2006 and 2008 she hosted The Charlotte Church Show on Channel 4, which combined sketches, interviews and music and won her several comedy awards.
Her other screen work includes guest roles in Touched by an Angel and Heartbeat and a film appearance in Craig Ferguson’s I’ll Be There.
