Bodies Without Organs

Bodies Without Organs

Biography

The Swedish electropop group Bodies Without Organs, often abbreviated as BWO, was founded in 2003 by musician and writer Alexander Bard. He developed this new musical project with producer Anders Hansson, who became its co-producer.

After auditioning over thirty-five singers, the duo met Martin Rolinski, who was chosen as the lead vocalist. Marina Schiptjenko, an art dealer and former member of Vacuum (a previous Bard project), then completed the lineup as the third member.

An initial idea envisioned a quartet including Jean-Pierre Barda from the group Army of Lovers, but this did not materialize. Barda’s explicit involvement was limited to co-writing the group’s first single, Living In A Fantasy.

The group’s name is derived from the philosophical term “body without organs” developed by French philosopher Gilles Deleuze and psychoanalyst Félix Guattari. Bard, himself an author and philosophy lecturer, has referenced Deleuze’s ideas in his writings.

The collective is also known under the alias Organs Without Bodies on some platforms.
