Biography

Tim Bergling, known professionally as Avicii, was a Swedish DJ, remixer and record producer.

He began posting remixes on electronic music forums at age 16, which led to his first recording contract. He gained international recognition in 2011 with the single Levels.

His debut studio album, True (2013), combined electronic music with elements from multiple genres and was generally well received, reaching the top 10 in more than 15 countries and topping several international charts. The lead single, Wake Me Up, was a major commercial success, reaching number one in most European countries and number four in the United States.

In 2015 Avicii released his second studio album, Stories, followed by the EP Avīci (01) in 2017. His discography includes singles such as I Could Be the One with Nicky Romero, You Make Me, X You, Hey Brother, Addicted to You, The Days, The Nights, Waiting for Love, Without You, Lonely Together and SOS.

He was nominated for Grammy Awards for Sunshine with David Guetta in 2012 and for Levels in 2013. Avicii is credited by several music publications as one of the DJs who helped bring electronic music into the mainstream Top 40 in the early 2010s.

Bergling retired from touring in 2016 due to stress and mental health issues. He died by suicide in 2018 while on vacation in Muscat, Oman. His third and final album, Tim, was released posthumously in 2019.
