Alexia
Biography
Alexia, born Alessia Aquilani, is an Italian singer born on 19 May 1967 in La Spezia.
She began her career in 1990 working for Italian producer Roberto Zanetti (aka Robyx), providing backing vocals for several of his eurodance projects, including Double You and Ice MC. Her voice became famous in the 1990s thanks to the female vocal parts on Ice MC songs Think About the Way and It's a Rainy Day. The song Think About the Way achieved worldwide success and was included on the soundtrack of the film Trainspotting.
In 1995 she launched her solo career with the single Me and You on Zanetti’s ZYX Music label. Her debut album, Fan Club, was released in 1997 and contains popular tracks such as Summer is Crazy, Number One and Uh La La La. Her second album, The Party, marked the beginning of a transition from eurodance to pop, although the most successful track, The Music I Like, remains a typical eurodance piece.
From 2002, Alexia made a significant shift by abandoning eurodance and singing almost exclusively in Italian. That year she took part in the Sanremo Music Festival for the first time, finishing second with Dimmi Come. She won the festival the following year with the song Per Dire di No. Her most successful album in Italy is Gli Occhi Grandi Della Luna (2004), which includes the international single You Need Love, written by Diane Warren.
Over the course of her career, Alexia has sold more than six million albums worldwide.
