
Alex Velea
Biography
Alex Velea, whose real name is Alexandru Ionuț Velea, was born on May 13, 1984 in Craiova, Romania.
His passion for music was passed on by his parents, especially his father, who is a musician. He began singing in an organized way at age 9 and became a student at the Palais des Enfants at 11. From age 16, he studied classical singing for four years.
A producer and musician, he is the main producer of the label Golden Boy Society. His debut album, “YAMASHA,” was released in autumn 2006; he considers it a personal statement. Blending R&B, hip hop, and pop, it was produced in collaboration with his friends Smiley and Marius Moga.
For this album, Alex Velea also worked with several other artists, including Connect-R, Matteo, Don Baxter, Byga from the group C.I.A., as well as Mandinga on the song Cand Sunt Cu Tine, which brings in Latin rhythms. Other tracks close to him include Ce N-As Da and Jurnalul Unei Fete.
The album’s first single is the title track Yamasha, composed by Marius Moga and Smiley with lyrics written by Alex Velea. A music video was filmed for it in summer 2006 under the direction of Iulian Moga.
Throughout his career, Alex Velea has shown his versatility through collaborations with various artists from the Romanian scene such as Anda Adam, Puya, Anna Lesko, Sisu, and the group Mandinga.
