Sylver

Biography

Sylver is a Belgian electronic dance project, active since 2000, primarily known for its hit Turn the Tide. The group consists of Regi Penxten, John Miles Jr., DJ Wout and Silvy De Bie, although the core of the project is the duo formed by Wout van Dessel and Silvy De Bie. Originally intended under the name “Liquid feat Sylvie”, the project was renamed Sylver due to the existence of a band with the same name. Silvy De Bie, the lead singer, began her media career as a child on a Belgian TV show. Wout Van Dessel, keyboardist and songwriter, is a renowned DJ, and Regi Penxten is the producer and co-writer. Their meeting took place in a discotheque where Wout was a resident DJ.

The group’s commercial breakthrough came in 2001 with the album “Chances” and the single Turn the Tide, which was immediately successful in Germany, quickly reaching the top of the charts. The album remained in the top 100 for many weeks. Another single from this album, Forever In Love, was also successful.

The second album, “Little Things”, was released in 2003 and was supported by the singles Livin' My Life and Why Worry. It confirmed the group’s popularity. The third album, “Nighttime Calls”, was released in 2004, with the single Love is an Angel entering directly into the top 10 in Belgium. The fourth studio album, “Crossroads”, was released in May 2006, with Lay All Your Love On Me as the first single. A greatest hits compilation was released in 2007, including two new songs, among them the single The One. The group took a break in 2007, linked to the birth of Silvy’s daughter, before resuming activities in 2008.

Their musical style falls within the vocal trance and eurodance movement, using not only synthesizers and drum machines but sometimes also instruments such as guitar, piano or percussion. Sylver has toured in Belgium, North America, South Africa, Asia, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe.

Among their other notable singles are Skin, Forgiven, In Your Eyes, Shallow Waters, Wild Horses, Make It, Take Me Back, One Night Stand, Why, One World, One Dream, Rise Again and I Hate You Now. Another album, “Sacrifice”, was released in 2009.

The project was active until 2013 before taking a break, then resumed activities from 2016 onwards. Sylver is also known under the aliases or variations Silver, Sliver, Sylver (EU), Zilver, as well as Liquid (3).
