Biography
DJ F.R.A.N.K., whose real name is Frank Van Herwegen (born December 10, 1970 in Schoten, Belgium), is a Belgian DJ and electronic music record producer. He is sometimes credited as DJ Frank or DJ F.r.a.n.k. His work is mainly associated with House and Dance, and he has also used the aliases Frank Van Herwegen, Frank Ti-Aya and F (3) for specific projects.
He started at 16, DJing at social events, then worked as a record seller in Antwerp for four years. In 1995, he opened a private DJ store with fellow DJ AJ Duncan, and also DJed at DIXIES Brasschaat.
His most lucrative period came in the early 2000s when he joined the Belgian-German dance project The Underdog Project as the group’s remixer. The four-member lineup also included vocalists Crag Smart and Vic Krishna, with AJ Duncan on keyboards. The project released the commercially successful album It Doesn’t Matter, which reached number 2 on both the German and Australian albums charts.
With The Underdog Project, he is associated with major hits including Summer Jam, Saturday Night, Tonight and “Girls of Summer”. Summer Jam was certified gold in France and Germany, and double platinum in Belgium and the Netherlands. Saturday Night became a pan-European hit, charting in Belgium, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
In summer 2006, he scored a major charting hit in collaboration with Danzel with the single My Arms Keep Missing You. Between 2006 and 2008, he also released hits under the name Frank Ti-Aya, in cooperation with Yardi Don, an alias used by singer Craig Smart. In 2011, he topped the Belgian Ultratop chart with Discotex! (Yah!), his highest-charting solo hit.
