The Underdog Project

The Underdog Project

Biography

The Underdog Project is a musical collective formed around producers and DJs Stephan Browarczyk, Toni Cottura (alias Tone Def), and Shahin Moshirian (alias DJ Shahin). The project originated during a visit to Germany by singer Vick Krishna, who participated in a jam session with Canadian singer Craig Smart and the production team Tone Def and Triple S. This fruitful collaboration led to the group’s formation.

On stage, the project is represented by singer Vick Krishna. Their first album, titled “It Doesn’t Matter” and released in 2001, features a multitude of guest artists, with a different voice (rap and singing) on each track. Besides Vick Krishna and Craig Smart, it includes artists such as Choice, P. Suave, Terry, Shade, Carlos E. Harmon, Anthony Freeman from the R’n’B duo Jonestown, and even producer Toni Cottura himself.

Their music has been described as a blend of reggae, RnB, freestyle, and English 2-step elements, resulting in highly successful dance tracks. Their first single, Summer Jam, became one of the biggest pop hits in Europe in 2000. Among their other popular tracks are Saturday Night and Tonight.

The collective is also associated with the remix work of Belgian DJ DJ F.R.A.N.K., who notably produced the British radio edition of the track Saturday Night in 2003. The project is known under several name variations, such as The UD Project, Underdog Project, or Underground Project.
