the Chainsmokers

Biography

The Chainsmokers are an American production and DJ duo from New York, made up of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall. Their sound sits at the crossroads of Dance, Pop, and Electro house.

They rose to prominence in 2014 with the viral success of the single #SELFIE. The track, which humorously poked fun at the era’s narcissism, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance chart, sold over ten million copies, and was supported by a music video featuring notable appearances.

The duo then cemented their breakthrough with tracks such as the double-platinum Roses and Don't Let Me Down, a collaboration with singer Daya that earned them a Grammy Award. Their commercial peak came with the global hit Closer featuring Halsey, which stayed at No. 1 in the United States for more than ten weeks, setting a record.

They released several extended projects, including the EP *Bouquet* in 2015 and the EP *Collage* in 2016, before issuing their debut studio album, *Memories: Do Not Open*, in 2017. Featuring collaborations with Coldplay and Emily Warren among others, the album debuted at the top of the Billboard 200. Their music later shifted toward more introspective tones with the single and EP *Sick Boy* in 2018.

Prolific and highly active on stage, The Chainsmokers have performed at many major international festivals and hosted radio shows on SiriusXM. Their career is defined by a knack for blending catchy pop melodies with club-ready electronic production, solidifying their place in mainstream Edm.
