Le Click

Biography

Le Click is a eurodance duo formed in Germany by producer Frank Farian, also responsible for Milli Vanilli. The group consists of vocalist Kayo Shekoni and rap-singer Robert Haynes. At the project’s outset it was voiced by Melanie Thornton, the singer of La Bouche, alongside Caribbean singer Mikey Romeo. The track Tonight Is The Night, featuring Melanie Thornton, was released in 1995.

The label later relaunched the project with a new lineup: Kayo Shekoni on vocals and Robert Haynes on rap. Their 1997 single, Call Me, achieved significant commercial success, reaching number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, number 38 in the United Kingdom, number 4 on the US Dance chart and number 1 on the Canadian dance chart. The versions released in the UK and the US differed markedly.

Their album Tonight Is the Night, released in 1997, peaked at number 95 in Germany. The following single, Don't Go, reached number 62 on the Hot 100. Their final single, Heaven's Got To Be Better, released in 1997, met with little success.

Le Click’s music, produced by German dance writers Amir Saraf and Ulli Brenner (the duo behind La Bouche‘s hits) with writing contributions from Nosie Katzmann, blends disco, hip hop, house, synthpop and electronic music. On Call Me, Kayo Shekoni’s seductive soprano answers Robert Haynes‘s rap-sung lines. Backing vocals were provided by Maria Lucia Lozanes, who later became the singer of Captain Jack.

Kayo Shekoni later represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 with the group Afro-dite.
