Cosmic Gate
Biography
Cosmic Gate is a German DJ and trance producer duo, composed of Claus Terhoeven (born in 1972) and Stefan Bossems (born in 1967), both from Krefeld, Germany.
The two artists, Claus Terhoeven (alias Nic Chagall) and Stefan Bossems (alias Bossi), met in 1997 while each had releases under various projects. In November 1998 they happened to meet in a studio and decided to make a track together; the result was “The Drums”, the duo’s first foray into hard trance and the birth of Cosmic Gate. At that point they gave up their DJ residencies to have enough time for remixes, concerts and new productions.
Their sound evolved across albums: in 2006 their third studio album, “Earth Mover”, departed from the distinct hard-trance sound that had characterized them. The fourth album, “Sign Of The Times” (2009), adopted a more progressive approach to trance, reflecting the duo’s DJ sets.
In a more recent configuration, Stefan is only behind the decks as part of the duo, while Cosmic Gate tracks are produced by Claus with co-production by Olaf Dieckmann (Wippenberg). In 2018 Olaf and the duo were nominated for the Grammy Awards for the Cosmic Gate remix of The Only Road featuring Sub Teal, in the “Best Remixed Recording” category.
The duo was also ranked in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ Poll, reaching 19th place in 2009 and 24th place in 2010.
