Kylie Minogue
Biography
Kylie Ann Minogue is an Australian singer, songwriter and actress, born on 28 May 1968 in Melbourne.
She began her career as an actress and rose to fame through the Australian TV series Neighbours; she is the sister of the artist Dannii Minogue. Her musical career started in 1987 when she signed to PWL with the producer trio Stock Aitken Waterman, becoming a prominent pop figure of the late 1980s with hits such as I Should Be So Lucky, The Loco-Motion and Better the Devil You Know.
In the early 1990s, seeking greater creative control, she signed to Deconstruction Records and released the critically praised albums Kylie Minogue (1994) and Impossible Princess (1997). She returned to mainstream dance with Light Years (2000), which included the number-one singles Spinning Around and On a Night Like This.
Her definitive international breakthrough came with Fever (2001), her best-selling album to date: while Love at First Sight and In Your Eyes were successful, it was the lead single Can't Get You Out of My Head that became one of the best-selling singles of the 2000s.
Throughout her career she has continually reinvented her image and explored various genres — bubblegum pop, dance, electronic influences and disco — producing hits like Slow, 2 Hearts, All the Lovers, Santa Baby, Timebomb and Dancing; her acclaimed albums also include Aphrodite (2010), Golden (2018), DISCO (2020) and Tension (2023).
With DISCO in 2020 she became the first female artist to place a number-one album in the UK across five consecutive decades.
Alongside music, she has pursued a film career — debuting in The Delinquents (1989) — and has appeared in films such as Street Fighter (1994), Moulin Rouge! (2001), Holy Motors (2012) and San Andreas (2015); she has also served as a judge on The Voice UK and The Voice Australia.
Known for her longevity, constant reinventions and strong visual aesthetic, the European press often dubs her the ‘Princess of Pop’. She is the best-selling Australian female artist of all time, with more than 80 million records sold worldwide.
Her honours include two Grammy Awards, four Brit Awards and 18 ARIA Music Awards; she was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2008 and was made a Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government for her contribution to French culture.
