Zippora
Biography
Zippora is both the stage name and the given name of Belgian singer Zippora De Brauwer, born 28 July 1977 in Ghent and based in Antwerp.
Trained in dance and singing from a young age, she began on stage as a playback artist and quickly established herself as a dancer and backing vocalist in clubs such as Zillion, Café d’Anvers and Pacha (Ibiza). Discovered by Patrick De Coninck, she joined the dance troupe The Groovies and, after an audition at Byte Records, turned to recording. Her artistic approach blends singing with stage performance, the Zippora project being centered on her voice and stage image.
Her early productions involved noted Belgian producers: Eddy Weyns, Pieter-Jan Verachtert (known for his work with D-Devils) and DJ Philip Meers. An early release was 4 Ever U, but the breakthrough came in December 2000 with Lotus Eater (Original Radio Edit) (2000), produced by Eddy Weyns and DJ Philip Meers: the single reached number one on the official dance chart (Ultratop) and number 15 on the singles chart, where it remained for thirteen weeks.
Subsequent releases confirmed a steady presence in the Belgian dance charts: What About You (mid‑2001) reached number 49 on the singles chart, while See The Sun (April 2002), supported by a video, returned to number one on the dance chart and reached number 18 on the singles chart for eight weeks. Later, Time Stood Still reached number 10 on the dance chart and number 34 on the mainstream chart, and the 2004 release Luminous & Beautiful ranked 13 in the dance charts and 22 on the singles chart.
Under another project name, JAM (Just Be Yourself), she released two singles in 2006 produced by Serge Ramaekers — Just Be Yourself and Keep On Movin’ — without matching her earlier commercial impact. Selected discography: 4 Ever U, Lotus Eater (Original Radio Edit) (2000), What About You, See The Sun, Luminous & Beautiful, Just Be Yourself (as JAM), Keep On Movin’.
After a quieter period, the singer announced in 2009 that she was back in the studio, indicating an artistic project still tied to her vocal identity and collaborations with producers from the Belgian dance scene.
