Wamdue Project
Biography
Wamdue Project is essentially the solo project of Atlanta producer Chris Brann (Christopher T. Brann), supported by DJs Deep C and Udoh.
Their recordings blend house and club music, often favoring the dancefloor.
Rather than headphone listening, Wamdue’s productions are club favorites.
Signed to mainstream label Strictly Rhythm, the project combines the warmth of R&B and house with tight rhythms and the punchy effects of Detroit techno.
Chris Brann grew up listening to soul legends like Marvin Gaye and Isaac Hayes, and electronic pioneers such as Kraftwerk, Steve Reich and Cabaret Voltaire.
In 1994 he teamed up with DJs/producers Deep C (Chris Clark) and Udoh (Chris Udoh).[ /p][p]After connecting with Detroit techno-soul producer K Hand, Wamdue debuted with the single Higher.
In 1995 they released singles on labels such as Peacefrog, Stud!o K7, Love from San Francisco, Jus’ Trax and Multiply, under aliases including Wamdue Kids, Wambonix and Wamdue Project.
In 1996 a Wamdue Kids compilation appeared on Stud!o K7, followed by the album Resource Toolbox, Vol. 1 on Strictly Rhythm, mainly Brann’s work, hailed as a masterpiece of intelligent dance.
In 1997 Wamdue Kids issued a full album on Peacefrog and Wamdue Project released Deepfall on the same label.
In 1998 another Wamdue Project album, Program Yourself, was released on Strictly Rhythm.
Under the Wamdue Project name, Chris Brann has used several aliases — Wambonix, Chris Brann, The Ananda Project, Santal, Feral, P'tang, P'Taah, Wam Kidz and Summer Children — reflecting the diversity of his electronic productions.
