Waldo’s People

Waldo’s People

Biography

Waldo’s People is a Finnish eurodance group. The project is led by Finnish producer Ari Lehtonen, also known for the project Texmex. The lineup includes Waldo, who had already enjoyed some solo success, alongside several singers. Members and former members include Charlie King, Monica and Jessica Appelgren from Sweden, and Krista (or Christa Renwall) from Finland. Other participants have included Sami Lehto (drums), Karl Sinkkonen (keyboards), Kimmo Nissinen (guitars), Karoliina Kallio (vocals), Marko Reijonen and Astrid Nicole (vocals).

The first single, U Drive Me Crazy, which incorporates a famous guitar riff by Nirvana, achieved major success: it was the first Finnish video to be added to MTV Nordic’s daily rotation, where it reached second place on the Nordic Top 5, and it was widely played on ZTV, the Swedish youth channel. The song reached number one on the Finnish dance chart and also performed well on the Swedish dance chart.

The debut album, titled Waldo’s People, was a considerable success, reaching the top ten of the official Finnish sales chart. It contains the singles U Drive Me Crazy, I Dream, Let's Get Busy and Rain. The album was later released internationally.

The second album, No-Man’s-Land, includes the hits 1000 Ways, Rock The World and Remedy.

Alongside the group, Waldo enjoyed notable solo success in Romania, where he performed as a headliner at the Golden Stag festival alongside artists such as Diana Ross and Status Quo. Although he acknowledges that Romanian success, he refuses to compare it to his success in Finland and also rejects the label of leader within the Waldo’s People project.

The group was selected to represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009.
